The BMA’s (British Medical Association) resident doctor members in Scotland have voted in support of strike action.  While this action has not yet been formally confirmed to NHS Scotland, Tuesday 13 January to Saturday 17 January 2026 has been indicated as the likely time frame.

NHS Lothian has contingency plans in place to ensure safe care is maintained and to minimise disruption where possible if strike action goes ahead. However, significant impact on some services is anticipated.

Patients will be informed directly if their appointment is affected by industrial action so please attend your appointment as normal unless we are in touch with you individually to tell you otherwise.

Please avoid calling your clinical department or hospital switchboard for information about your appointment. You will be contacted by letter, phone or text if your appointment is to be cancelled.

Further updates will be posted here on our website and on our social media channels as we receive more information.
