Patients and visitors are advised of ongoing travel disruption and the temporary closure of a Boots Pharmacy following the major fire on Princes Street, while investigations and structural safety works continue.
Travel Disruption
Restrictions remain in place in the city centre until further notice including:
- Princes Street and Rose Street South Lane remain closed
- Edinburgh Trams are currently terminating short of the city centre
- Many bus diversions are in place
Anyone travelling to NHS sites through the city centre is urged to plan their journey in advance, check public transport information and allow additional travel time.
Pharmacy Access
The Boots pharmacy at 101–103 Princes Street is temporarily closed while investigation works continue.
Patients due to collect a prescription from this store are advised to contact Boots on 0131 225 8331 for up-to-date information on store re-opening and to check if alternative arrangements can be made to collect their medicine from another Boots pharmacy.
If the supply is urgent, and alternative collection arrangements cannot be made, patients should contact their GP practice for advice.
While this branch is inaccessible patients can also use the NHS Inform pharmacy finder to find their nearest available pharmacy.
Next Steps
The situation is being monitored by the Edinburgh Local Resilience Partnership, which includes NHS Lothian and other partner agencies. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.
