Susan Webb has been appointed to the post of Executive Director of Public Health and Health Policy for NHS Lothian, a position she will take up later this year following the retirement of Dona Milne, the current post holder.
Mrs Webb has been Director of Public Health in NHS Grampian for almost nine years and is Chair of the Scottish Directors of Public Health network.
As well as making an outstanding local and national leadership contribution during the Covid pandemic, during her time at NHS Grampian Mrs Webb has played an instrumental role in a range of initiatives. These have included the development of the North-East Population Health Alliance with national and local public sector partners; the development of a new approach to colleague and citizen engagement; and alongside colleagues in Public Heath Scotland, Aberdeen City Council, and the Institute for Health Equity, helping to improve the implementation of population health policy.
Caroline Hiscox, Chief Executive, NHS Lothian said: I’d like firstly to extend our thanks and gratitude to Dona Milne who has been a hugely influential figure in the public health landscape throughout her career, in particular for her unwavering commitment to reducing health inequalities and her focus on preventing the causes of ill health in public health policy. All at NHS Lothian and beyond wish her a very happy retirement.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Susan to NHS Lothian as our Executive Director of Public Health and Health Policy. Susan brings a wealth of experience and expertise, alongside a clear passion and drive to improve population health.
“Susan has worked in a variety of roles, most recently at NHS Grampian, where she has been instrumental in driving collaboration with local authorities and the private, and voluntary sector to support the development of a more inclusive approach to health programme development and delivery.”
Susan trained as an Allied Health Professional working in acute and community settings before starting a career in Public Health. She moved to Grampian in 1995 as the co-ordinator of the Grampian Heart Campaign, a local charitable organisation. She has undertaken a number of roles in Public Health in health improvement, health intelligence and service planning before becoming NHS Grampian’s Deputy Director of Public Health in 2000 and Director of Public Health in 2016.
Mrs Webb will join NHS Lothian in July.
