I’d like to thank you all for your exceptional service throughout 2023.  That service is all the more remarkable considering the pretty relentless pressure that we have been experiencing in every part of the system.

I know that when we can’t deliver the care we would like, as promptly as we would like, it can take a professional and sometimes a personal toll on you too. Please accept my deep appreciation for your hard work and my word that we are doing everything possible to try to ease that pressure. Together with leadership teams across the system, be assured that we will remain laser focussed on that in the coming months too.

My special appreciation goes to those of you who will be working over the festive period. It’s a big sacrifice and I am very grateful for your commitment. Whilst the NHS never sleeps, I hope that everyone gets some quality time at some point over the next few weeks with family and friends, to rest and recharge – you all deserve it.

Finally, I hope that when you reflect on the year that has just passed, you will allow yourselves to feel proud of what you do and of what you and your colleagues achieve every day.

Thank you and Happy Christmas,

Calum Campbell
