Here are our top ten hints and tips to help you make the best nomination possible.

- Planning: if you want to nominate someone for an award have a look at the categories now and start planning your entry.
- Use the correct form: there are different forms depending on whether you are nominating someone as a member of staff or as a member of the public / patient.
- Check who you can nominate: some categories are open to individuals or teams only and others are for staff working in specific areas of NHS Lothian.
- Choose the right category: read the category descriptions carefully and pick the one that matches your nomination the closest. Each description is different and you should be able to show how your entry meets most of the criteria and evidence requested.
- Save your work: you can download a copy of the nomination form to work on a draft offline, save it for later or email it to us. This can be helpful if you want to add to or review it in stages.
- Tell a story: your entry is more likely to stand out if it has a clear beginning, middle and end and reads well, like an interesting story.
- Avoid jargon: explain any technical terms and make sure you spell out any acronyms or abbreviations in full the first time they are used.
- Observe the word count: nominations are limited to 500 words.
- Check your entry: before you press the submit button review your entry to make sure you have entered all the details correctly, including the category, and to correct any errors.
- Don’t leave it too late: make sure you note the deadline and submit your nomination in plenty of time.
