The annual awards are our chance to recognise members of the NHS Lothian team who regularly go above and beyond the call of duty and we thank the winners for the hard work, care and dedication they show.

Improving Patient Access

The South East Community Midwifery Team scooped this award for their dedication and enthusiasm in improving access to postnatal contraception for all women.

Best Example of Quality, Innovation and Productivity

The Forensic Radiology Team at the Royal Infirmary stood out in this category for establishing the first post mortem CT service in Scotland.

Voluntary Service Award

Jimmy McGill won this award for his work on the FACE Garden at the Western General which provides great joy to staff, patients and visitors at the Cancer Unit.

Mentor of the Year

“Our Val”, Valerie McGowan, took this award for her structured, easy-to-understand training for staff in the Reproductive Medicine Lab.

Staff Member of the Year

Gillian Clarke, team lead for the capacity and site management team at the Royal Infirmary won this award for putting her heart and soul into ensuring patients get in and out of hospital in a safe, effective and efficient way.

Respect for Others

Our Health Visiting Team from Pennywell Resource Centre won this award for their dedication in developing positive relationships with hard to reach families.

Team of the Year

The Team of the Year award went to the Domestic Services team from Liberton Hospital for excelling in gaining more knowledge of infection, prevention and control in order to provide a clean environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Caring Champion of the Year

Our Caring Champion of the Year is Robbie Collins, clinical support worker from Haemophilia and Thrombosis for going above and beyond his job role in providing play therapy to children receiving treatment.

Health Hero

And finally, our Health Hero is Margaret McEwan, play specialist at the Sick Kid’s for her invaluable support to little patient Bella and her family during her treatment.
