British Sign Language users and their families living in Lothian are being invited to attend public events aimed at improving services for BSL users.

The events are being hosted by a partnership including NHS Lothian, East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian Councils.

It is an opportunity for people whose first or preferred language is BSL, and other BSL users, to continue working with the partnership bodies to deliver the commitments in their BSL Plans.

BSL interpreters will be available to provide communication support at the events, including at presentations and group discussions.

The partners want to learn about the lived experience of BSL users and find out what is working, what is not and what they can be doing better.

Deaf and Deafblind BSL users and their families are invited to drop in to any of the following events:

  • Thursday 4 September, 12noon–1pm, Edinburgh Deaf Club, Deaf Action, 49 Albany Street, Edinburgh
  • Saturday 27 September, 10:30am–12:30pm, Civic Centre, Livingston
  • Saturday 4 October, 11am–1pm, Midlothian, St John’s and Kings Park Church, Dalkeith
  • Saturday 25 October, 10.30am – 12.30pm, Port Seton Centre, South Seton Park, Port Seton

Anyone who is unable to attend an event but would like to contribute feedback can do so by emailing: Loth.equalityandhumanrights@nhs.scot
