Professor Caroline Hiscox, Chief Executive for NHS Lothian said:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Professor Sir Geoff Palmer who was a renowned advocate for human rights and equality and supported NHS Lothian on our journey to be an anti-racist organisation.
“We warmly welcomed his outstanding insight and expertise in framing the importance of promoting understanding that a diverse society needs diverse attention to provide excellent healthcare to everyone. Sir Geoff played a crucial role in encouraging NHS Lothian and NHS Lothian Charity to understand, acknowledge and apologise for their historical connections with transatlantic chattel slavery.
“We are grateful for his generous advice and counsel and his legacy will continue to inspire our work to tackle racism and reduce inequality. We extend our sincere condolences to all his family, friends, colleagues and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
