NHS Lothian has launched a brand new, purpose-built website for its cancer services.
The website (www.edinburghcancercentre.nhs.scot) has been created for Edinburgh Cancer Centre,
a specialist Cancer Hospital serving patients from across the southeast of Scotland.
The site was designed in collaboration with patients and NHS staff and was made possible with the generous support of the NHS Lothian Charity.
It is packed with useful resources to help support the health and wellbeing of people affected by cancer. It provides helpful guidance on the facilities available within the hospital, as well as vital information and videos for those attending appointments.
Lyndsay Cameron, General Manager for Cancer Services commented: “The Edinburgh Cancer Centre is committed to leading the way in diagnosing and treating cancer, and the new website is a valuable asset for people and their families who are seeking health information, support and guidance. With everything from what to expect on a visit to the Cancer Centre, as well information on our departments, our teams our facilities and the charity partners who provide all kinds of help and advice to our patients, this is a fantastic and welcomed platform. We hope that the website will help support the health and wellbeing of cancer patients in the southeast of Scotland for years through diagnosis, treatment and beyond.”
Jane Ferguson, Director of NHS Lothian Charity, said: “In today’s digital age, a strong online presence is essential for reaching and supporting those affected by cancer. That is why we were pleased to fund the creation of a new dedicated website. This website will serve as a valuable resource for the centre’s community of patients, families, and staff, offering a wealth of information and support.”
Krystyna Szumelukowa and Rebecca McIntyre-Smith, patients at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, added: “This new online resource provides essential information at an incredibly stressful. It is often too easy to turn to Google for information, which is always risky and rarely correct. Knowing there is now one place to go to for reliable information from the Edinburgh Cancer Centre is a huge reassurance.
“The new staff finder tool is fantastic and it’s great to be able to read up on your team before meeting them. We were pleased to contribute to the development of the website, which is already a massive help to patients and family in the area.”
