Congratulations to NHS Lothian’s Jessica Davidson, Clinical Lead- South East Healthcare & Forensic Medical Services for People in Police Care and Nurse Lead for SARCS Network who received an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours List for services to forensic nursing and victim support in Scotland.
As a trailblazer and one of the most experienced and respected senior clinical forensic charge nurses in Scotland, Jess has worked alongside Police Scotland to coordinate a regional nurse-led service which has greatly improved intervention and support for people who require medical and/or forensic attention.
Jess worked to establish Queen Margaret University’s PgCert Advanced Forensic Nursing (Person-Centred Practice) course and has worked tirelessly with Police Scotland, The Scottish Government and other agencies to improve healthcare services for people suffering from sexual assault/abuse and for patients in police custody.
Alongside her work with NHS Lothian, Jess continues to work with Queen Margaret University to support and develop highly skilled forensic nurse practitioners, who are working to improve person-centred care for people who have experienced sexual assault and trauma, and for those in police custody who are marginalised and disenfranchised with unmet healthcare needs.
On receiving the news Jess said, “I am delighted to receive an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours List. This is a reflection of the collective hard work and vision of so many people across the networks I am privileged to work within. In particular, the clinical team and the senior management team in NHS Lothian who have always supported and shared my drive to provide the best possible trauma informed, person centred healthcare within NHS Lothian and beyond for people in Police Custody and people in our SARCs. Being recognised for Forensic Nursing and victim support can invigorate all of us to be the people our patients want to see and to begin the journey of recovery alongside them.”
