This month is international Black History Month and to help celebrate, we wanted to recognise diversity in NHS Lothian.
Award winning
Rakiya Suleiman, Equality and Diversity Adviser in Public Health, a founding member and co-chair of the BME Staff Network and a Unison steward, recently won the Chair’s Award at the Celebrating Success Awards ceremony.
Rakiya was credited for championing equality and diversity across NHS Lothian. She has worked tirelessly to support BME and LGBT+ networks and ensure that everyone, regardless of skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, race, or religion, is treated fairly.
Rakiya said after winning the award: “This is to let me know, that regardless of who you are, this is a place for everybody. Our organisation is listening, and we’re making changes. Whether you look like me, or you’re different, NHS is representing the people we have in the community. I can feel it.”
