NHS Lothian’s Emergency Department under extreme pressure

ed-ae
Reading Time: < 1 minute

NHS Lothian are appealing to the public not to attend their Emergency departments unless it is a critical emergency, as services are currently under extreme pressure.

Dr Caroline Whitworth, Acute Medical Director appeared on BBC Radio Scotland’s breakfast show ‘Good Morning Scotland’ to explain the current situation and to help the public know what to do

We urge the public, if they think they need to visit A&E, but it’s not a critical emergency, to call NHS 24 on 111 first, day or night.

NHS 24 will direct you to the right care in the right place. Self-care information can be found on NHS Inform. Local pharmacies, GPs, dental practices or opticians might also be the most appropriate and more timely route to treatment and care.
