  • It’s not every day a baby born in one of our hospitals becomes an astronaut! 🚀

Jannicke Mikkelsen was born in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1986 at 27 weeks old and spent the first few months of her life in the care of our neonatal unit.👶

Jannicke has always aimed for the stars and has had a highly successful career to date working as a filmmaker in difficult environments like the Arctic and the open ocean. Amazingly, this week she is one of four astronauts of SpaceX's Fram2 mission, the first to fly over Earth's poles. 🌍

Jannicke’s parents have kept in touch with the team at RIE over the years, and at NHS Lothian, we join them in sharing how over the moon we are of all that Jannicke has achieved with her life. 👏
